The beauty of native Australian timber and the expertise of local woodworkers will be showcased in a recycling-based annual club challenge at the Albany Agricultural Show.

The wooden wares of the Albany Woodworkers Group will be on display in the Exhibition Pavilion.

This year’s annual club challenge theme is “recycle a pallet’ and asks entrants to create a piece of art by reusing a wooden pallet.

Woodcraft section leader Dawn Higgins said the judging panel would not know what the entrants were planning for their pallets until they brought their pieces in during the show.

“It could be a dining room table or it could be a spoon,” Ms Higgins said.

The popular marble run will be back for another year and a “make-a-boat” station will run throughout the show.

The make-a-boat station will challenge showgoers to make their own model boat to take home using only three pieces of pre-cut timber and one screw.

There will also be a large woodwork statue almost 2m high arriving from Denmark and a woodworker burning pyrography portraits.

The woodcraft section is co-ordinated by the Albany Woodworkers Group who meet at the Albany Boatshed every Saturday at noon.
