Profits at the family business of George Osborne, the former chancellor, almost tripled last year as sales of its expensive wallpapers rose above pre-pandemic levels.

Osborne & Little, an upmarket wallpaper and fabrics company, made a pre-tax profit of £1.53 million in the 12 months to end of March 2022, accounts filed with Companies House show. That compares with a profit of £560,000 in its previous financial year, after having fallen to a loss in the first year of the coronavirus outbreak.

Osborne & Little said that trading had still been affected by lockdowns in the early part of 2021 but “to a lesser extent” than the year before.

Its turnover rose to £29.1 million in the year, 20 per cent up on the £24.3
