Kevin M. Hansen

Kevin M. Hansen, age 62, of Tomahawk, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, at UW Hospital in Madison, Wis. Kevin was born in Patchogue, N.Y., on May 11, 1960, to the late Kenneth and Sarah (Loftus) Hansen. He was married to Debra Vanney on Sept. 3, 1988; she survives.

Kevin was a 1978 graduate of Rhinelander High School. Following graduation, he attended the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point and later received his Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. Kevin was passionate about learning and worked under Dr. Watson at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories in New York and also on the Human Genome Project with Dr. Weber in Marshfield, Wis., where his research paper was published on chromosome 19. A dedicated and talented educator, Kevin taught in Colby for several years before teaching Anatomy and Physiology, AP Biology, and Organic and Inorganic Chemistry at Lakeland Union High School for many years. He was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting and working on his food plots. Kevin was a family man who cherished time spent with his family, adored his granddaughters, and held a special place in his heart for his dog, Charlie.

Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Debra Hansen, of Tomahawk; his son, Kevin Hansen, of Rhinelander, Wis.; his daughter, Melissa (Steve) Schlosser, of Idaho; two brothers, Eric (Michelle) Hansen, of Rhinelander and Kenneth (Kathy) Hansen, of Michigan; and his sister, Kristine (Steve) Schramke, of Rhinelander. Kevin is further survived by his granddaughters, Nora, Greta, Rebekha, Leah, and Poppy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Sarah.
