  • Congress leaders are likely to embark on a state tour in January.

Ahead of Karnataka Assembly elections next year, state Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar has got a brand new bus to campaign across the state. Shivakumar and Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah are set to embark on a statewide tour soon.

The bus was spotted in front of Shivakumar’s residence in Sadashivanagar. The bus has been converted into a caravan to cater to the KPCC president’s personal needs.

The details of the specific modifications made to the bus are yet to be known and it is registered in Andhra Pradesh with the number ‘9999’.

Earlier, CLP leader Siddaramaiah too got a new bus to campaign across the state. The bus was taken on a trial run last month when he visited Kolar.

Siddaramaiah’s ultra-luxury bus is from Japanese company Isuzu and has a seating capacity of 6 people. It also consists of a sleeping area with a double bed and a toilet. It also has a sunroof to allow the CLP leader to greet the people during the campaigns.

Congress is planning a statewide tour in December or January which will cover all the districts of the state.

Earlier, Congress had decided two separate tours, one to be taken up by Siddaramaiah and another by Shivakumar. But, Congress leaders have requested the two stalwarts of the party to embark on the tour together to send a message of unity to counter the BJP which has been pointing to a rift within the state unit of the Congress over who will be the CM face of the party.

Congress state in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala along with other party leaders is said to be finalising the tour dates.

After Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ Congress had planned the state-wide tour to continue the momentum which started during the yatra.

A similar bus tour was taken up by the then KPCC president SM Krishna in 1999.

Ruling party leaders Basavaraj Bommai and BS Yediyurappa are visiting various districts as part of their ‘Janasankalpa Yatra’. Former CM HD Kumaraswamy is currently on ‘Pancharatna’ Yatra.
