A Milledgeville man has been indicted by a Baldwin County grand jury on murder charges stemming from the shooting death of a local woman earlier this year.

Grand jurors returned a six-count indictment against Reco Antwan Stephens earlier this week in Baldwin County Superior Court, The Union-Recorder has learned.

Stephens was indicted on one count of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, one county of aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a copy of the grand jury indictments released Wednesday by Baldwin County Superior Court Clerk Mitch Longino. 

The defendant is accused of shooting to death 23-year-old Shani Ronashia King. The shooting happened at a residence in the Capitol Homes Trailer Park, off Ga. Route 49 in Baldwin County.

Following the shooting, Stephens drove the victim to Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin hospital in Milledgeville. A short time later, King died from injuries related to the shooting, according to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Robert “Bob” Butch.

It wasn’t long before Stephens was questioned and subsequently taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting.

Stephens was among a large number of defendants indicted by grand jurors this week on various criminal charges.

Others included:

  • Kimberly Marie Simmons, one count of exploitation and intimidation of a disabled adult, elder person or resident.
  • Lonnie Ray Bragg, two counts of obscene internet contact with a child.
  • Michael Shawn Singleton, one count of aggravated stalking.
  • Jackson Marshall Pope, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and driving whIle license suspended.
  • Ambrielle Shanice Walls, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, driving while license suspended, driving under the influence, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
  • Jarvis Lehun Cobb, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and driving while license suspended.
  • Douglas Keith Pagan, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
  • Tessa Watkins Tharpe, two counts of obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
  • Hunter Eric Adams, two counts of interference with government property.
  • Latoria Cheynae Parks, Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of ecstasy with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
  • John Roy Whidby, Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act for possession of methamphetamine, and possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance.
  • Shondarius Deonta Jackson, also known as Lil Rude, Lil Rube, and Lil Rue, Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act for possession of cocaine.
  • Coty Elizabeth Seagraves, burglary in the second degree.
  • Quantavious Jamar Holsey, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • Jaden Nequan Ross, making a false statement.
  • Andrew Eugene Johnson, criminal damage to property in the first degree.
