Buncombe County man $200,000 from third bought lottery ticket ever
A man from Arden bought a lottery ticket for only the third time in his life and won $200,000, according to North Carolina lottery officials.
Officials say that Cody Plemmons, 18, of Arden, said that he made a last-minute decision to buy a scratch-off ticket at the counter.
“I honestly don’t even know why I got one,” Plemmons said. “I just thought, ‘Why not.’”
According to officials, Plemmons bought a Lucky $5 Payout ticket from Stanley's BP on U.S. 25/70 in Marshall on a stop on a day trip to Tennessee.
“I couldn’t believe it when I won,” Plemmons said. “This is only the third lottery ticket I’ve ever bought.”
Plemmons came to the lottery headquarters to collect his prize on Tuesday and after state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $142,501, officials say.
Plemmons said that he would put his winnings into savings, according to officials.
