A large cannabis farm worth almost a quarter of a million founds was found in a Great Barr property after police responded to a ‘burglary' call out. West Midlands Police officers were called to an address on the busy Newton Road in Sandwell on Wednesday (January 25).

But instead of signs of anyone looking to steal from the property, they found an elaborate cannabis growing operation set over five rooms and in the roof space. Neat rows of 231 cannabis plants were found.

There was also lighting and wiring seen in the set-up that was worth more than £230,000. The grow was that big that officers called in the West Midlands Police Cannabis Disposal Team specialists to clear it up.

The team tweeted: “Another burglary attended by the cannabis team on Wednesday in Great Barr. Cleared 5 rooms and a loft of cannabis plants, and all equipment put beyond use. 231 plants in total!”

A spokesman for West Midlands Police indicated there had been no arrests and ‘enquiries are ongoing’. Anyone with any information can contact police via Live Chat on the force’s website quoting police log: 4249 of January 25. Or alternatively, they can contact independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
