Several major supermarkets and a coffee chain have issued warnings to customers who have brought certain products from their stores due to potential health risks. Tesco, M&S and Costa Coffee are among those who have asked customers to return items and have promised a full refund.

Food alerts are issued by the Food Standards Agency to draw the attention of local food authorities, the food trade and members of public to national or local problems with food. They may relate to food safety or compositional issues.

The following warnings are among the latest product recalls which have been published on the Food Standards Agency website.

Tesco - Creamfields Grated Cheddar

Tesco is recalling Creamfields Grated Cheddar because it may contain small pieces of plastic, making it unsafe to eat. Tesco said: "Please do not consume this product and instead return any affected product to store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required."

Costa Coffee - Valentine's Mug

Costa Coffee has recalled its own brand Valentine's mug as it presents a choking risk. A small glass heart within the the glass cup could detach and become a small part, which young infants may place into their mouths and choke.

"The product has been recalled from end users and can be returned with a full refund," Costa said.

M&S - Belgian Dark Chocolate

Marks and Spencer is recalling it's own brand dark chocolate bar because some packs contain milk which is not mentioned on the label. The product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk.

The relevant allergy support organisations have been contacted, and will tell their members about the recall.

A spokeswoman said: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest store for a full refund."

Vevor is recalling its milkshake machine which presents a high risk of electric shock as it is inadequately earthed. The clamping means was not adequately secured against accidental loosening, which may potentially give an electric shock to the consumer.

The product also did not contain adequate information to ensure that the equipment could be correctly and safely installed, used, and maintained.
