A 41-year-old Wayne County woman paid a visit to a Trenton liquor store and turned a $5 free play coupon from the Michigan Lottery into a $300,000 windfall.

The winner, who has opted to remain anonymous, chose to try her luck at Beverage Express, 1637 West Road.

Her win came playing the Cashword Times 5 instant game.

She recently explained how she came upon the winning ticket.

“I purchased the ticket on New Year’s Eve using a $5 free play coupon I won playing the second chance games,” she said. “I scratched the ticket when I got in my car, and when I saw I’d won $300,000, I couldn’t believe it. I looked the ticket over multiple times and scanned it on the Lottery app to confirm the amount. When the $300,000 came up on the screen with confetti, I called my family and friends to tell them the good news.”

She recently visited lottery headquarters and claimed her winnings.

To date, players have pocketed more than $19 million playing Cashword Times 5.

The fairly new game was first offered in April 2022.

Each $5 offers players an opportunity to win prizes ranging anywhere from $5 to $300,000.
