Patrick Mahomes has gone above and beyond in his role as the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. In the last five years, the Chiefs have managed to head to the Super Bowl three times, this season included. Since the franchise drafted Mahomes, they’ve made the playoffs every single year. After witnessing his brilliance and the love Chiefs Nation has for the QB, it’s difficult to picture Mahomes in anything but red.
But now, reports suggest that the QB was not Chiefs-bound to start with. His father, a former MLB star, dropped a huge bombshell on what had occurred before his son’s draft.

In the last few days Patrick Mahomes Sr has been taking the spotlight away from his son. His viral celebration at the AFC championship game between the Chiefs and Bengals stole the show. Smoking on a cigar, a shot at Joe Burrow’s signature celebration, Mahomes Sr let the NFL world know that no one could get away with trash talking his son. Now, making a guest appearance on a radio show, ‘670 The Score,’ the former MLB star made a shocking revelation.

Mahomes Sr revealed that the Chicago Bears had expressed explicit interest in his son and were going to draft him third overall. He said, “They told him they were going to draft him, so we thought he was going to be the third pick overall and go to Chicago. He had a great meeting when he [was] there and liked all the guys that were doing stuff there. He thought he was going to be a Bear.” Well, that did not happen.

The Bears traded up to the second pick and selected Mitch Trubisky. Patrick Mahomes II ended up being selected by the Chiefs tenth overall. The QB’s father also added that his son had been hurt by the Bears’ decision. Well, from the looks of it, Chicago could be regretting their decision to skip over the star QB.

Mahomes has made himself a home with the Chiefs
After the last five years, Patrick Mahomes and his father will be glad that the Chiefs picked him instead. Under Andy Reid’s guidance, the QB has grown from strength to strength and is currently one of the best minds in the game. Imagining an alternate outcome with Mahomes at the Bears is nearly impossible after witnessing his brilliance with the Chiefs.
