Wintry showers will affect northern and western parts of the country this evening and overnight.

This will result in icy patches across lower levels.

Around 1-2cm of snow is possible above 150m - with 2-5cm above 250m.

The areas affected by the wintry conditions are Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Highland and Argyll and Bute.

Weather forecasters have said that the snow and ice may lead to difficult travel conditions.

Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

It is also likely that there will be some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths which could lead to injuries from slips and falls.

The Met Office website states: "Wintry showers will affect northern and western parts of Scotland this evening and overnight.

"This will result in icy patches at low levels. Some snow accumulations of 1 to 2 cm are possible above about 150 m, with 2 to 5 cm above about 250 m."

It comes after a yellow weather warning was issued for high winds.

The alert was in place from 6am until 5pm today, when 75mph gusts were forecast to hit the north west and Outer Hebrides.

The Met Office warned that delays to road, and cancellations of air and ferry transport were likely.

Meanwhile, some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities were affected by spray and large waves.
