Even though she was born in Karnataka, actress Shilpa Shetty had done only a handful of films in Sandalwood. In fact, she made her Kannada debut after becoming a known face in Bollywood and her foray into Tamil with Prabhudheva’s Mr Romeo (1996). Shilpa has so far acted in only three Kannada films and her last, Auto Shankar, was released in 2005. Now, after 18 years, Shilpa is making her comeback in Kannada cinema with Dhruva Sarja‘s upcoming film KD aka KingDom.

Shilpa took to social media to announce the latest development on the occasion of Ugadi. Wishing everyone on a special day, the actress wrote, “On this auspicious day of new beginnings, I’m thrilled to share with you a new character entering the war in KD’s battlefield as Satyavati.”

KD, directed by Prem of Kariya fame, is yet another gangster film from Kannada. The teaser of KD hinted that it is about the release of a gangster named Kaali from jail, who seems to be having thousands of enemies waiting to kill him. On the other hand, lakhs of his supporters also await his return to his ‘kingdom’. It would be interesting to see with which group Shilpa’s Satyavati stand.

KD seems to be yet another after-effect of KGF’s humongous success, which has made every hero in Sandalwood come up with a gangster film. Recently, Upendra’s Kabzaa, another gangster film from Kannada, was released to a bad response at the box office. Mounted as a period gangster, just like KGF, the film failed to create the magic of Yash’s film.
