Londoners have discovered a new piece of technology on buses. Sadly, they don't have much faith in the longevity of the new feature.

Speaking on Reddit, one person said: "Spotted a new display board on the bus stop at Elephant and Castle this morning." They shared a photo of a tablet-like information screen attached to a bus stop.

It showed live arrival times for the scheduled buses at the stop, and passengers had the option to press different buttons to access different pages. They could choose between timetables, route maps, or more information.

Along with the new screens, bus shelters on route 63 are part of a trial involving more snazzy tech. The stops along the route are getting full-colour screens showing up-to-the-second bus arrival information.

With future updates, passengers should also be able to see how busy it is on board scheduled buses. On the little boards shared to Reddit, passengers can also get the information read out to them.

But Londoners don't have much confidence in the scheme. They rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts on the system.

One person said: "Like most, the very first thought is how these are going to be damaged, stolen or vandalised." Another added: "Surprised the screen is still working, I expected it to have been smashed by now."

"Very nice, but sadly unlikely to be respected," one Londoner commented. Another said: "Ah man the thought of hoodlums damaging nice new things like this upsets me."

But some people preferred the new screens and were hopeful for the future. One said: "Much much better than the screens we have now, nobody needs to know when the 9th bus is arriving."

Another added: "I like that! I use my phone mostly to check the next bus, but it would be handy if real time information was available like that."

And some people provided reassurance that the screens would be fine. One said "These have been in place for about six months without harm so I think it'll be alright if they've survived this long." Another added: "It’s been there for quite a while now and it seems fine."
