Sensex gains 123 pts, Nifty closes below 17,000; broader markets underperform

Domestic equities largely traded in positive today but pared off their gains towards the session end on Monday amid mixed global clues. BSE benchmark Sensex gained 126.76 points or 0.22 per cent to end at 57,653.86, while NSE’s Nifty50 closed below 17,000-mark, as it gained 40.65 points, or 0.24 per cent to end at 16,985.70.

Broader markets underperformed today as Nifty Smallcap 50 tanked 1.68 per cent, while, Nifty Microcap 250 fell 1.87 per cent. Nifty Smallcap 100 ended 1.59 per cent down, and Nifty Smallcap 250 plunged 1.50 per cent. India Vix, on the other hand, gained 1.65 per cent today.

Realty stocks plunged 1.16 per cent today, followed by media stocks at 1.08 per cent. Meanwhile, pharma stocks gained 1.08 per cent today, while Nifty healthcare index jumped 1.11 per cent.

Grasim gained 1.86 per cent today, while Reliance Industries soared 1.61 per cent. Cipla, Divis Lab, Maruti Suzuki, Sun Pharma, and SBI were among the top performing stocks today.

Meanwhile, Adani Ports, SBI Life, Power Grid, Adani Enterprises, Mahindra & Mahindra Axis Bank, NTPC and Bajaj Finance were among the top losers today.
