Major coffee chain announces exciting plans for new venue at Scots shopping centre
A MAJOR coffee chain has announced plans to open a second venue at a shopping centre.
Costa Coffee hopes to set up shop within the Gyle Shopping Centre in Edinburgh.
If proposals are approved by Edinburgh City Council, the store will include a seating area for customers and offer a takeaway service.
The coffee giant said alongside its application: "As the proposed development will not sell any hot food and a significant proportion of the sales of sandwiches, confectionary and drinks are likely to be for takeaway purposes, there is a significant element of the use which would ordinarily fall within Class 1 (1A).
"The proposed coffee shop will also have an element of seating whereby customers can consume food and drinks on the premises. This adds an element of Class 3 use."
We recently told how Costa could be opening a new branch with a drive-thru in Glenrothes.

An application was submitted to Fife Council for the new store.
The plans would see TWO drive-thru outlets open on the site on undeveloped land north of Bankhead Services - with one of them being for the new Costa.
Proposers estimate the new development could bring up to 40 new jobs to the area.
We also told how the coffee roaster has revealed a new menu just in time for Easter and it includes an iconic chocolate bar.

The coffee giant is bringing back two of its Easter favourites and introducing a brand new drink.
But the drinks are limited edition and will be available until April 19 so shoppers will need to be quick.
