The fact that Mark Maher is dyslexic was not picked up until he was in college. “The only thing that got picked up at my school was the scruff of the neck,” the 43-year-old says. To say he did not enjoy school in Thurles, Co Tipperary, would be an understatement.
The young Maher had a flair for art and a love of 1980s horror movies — the more full of ghoulish special effects, the better. For fun he would turn his mates into zombies, “with make-up and women’s facemasks” and send them, skin peeling off, into shops, filming the response.
