Ashes hopeful Cameron Bancroft has capped off a resurgent season with his first Laurie Sawle Medal in seven years at the WA Cricket Awards on Saturday night.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a golden summer with the bat as he pushes for a long-awaited Australian Test recall, winning a title in all three formats to make it five in two seasons.

Bancroft also took out WA’s Sheffield Shield player of the year after amassing a competition-high 945 runs at 59.06 including four centuries, one half-century and the winning boundary in last week’s decider against Victoria at the WACA Ground.

Like he did in the shield, he also played every game in the Marsh One-Day Cup tournament, notching up 327 runs at 65.40.

WA captain Chloe Piparo won her first Zoë Goss Medal, which factors in performances from the Women’s National Cricket League and Women’s Big Bash League.

The consistent top-order batter also won the State’s WNCL player of the year with 513 runs at 51.30 and half-centuries in six of her 12 appearances, moving to second in the all-time leading run-scorers in the process behind Nicole Bolton.

It was a close count in the Goss Medal with Piparo (239 votes) edging out all-rounder Piepa Cleary (235) by just four votes, with off-spinner Lilly Mills coming third with 220.

Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe earned one-day layer of the Year honours, having already been recognised by Cricket Australia as the competition’s most valuable player.

Philippe hit 438 runs at 62.57, with one century, four other 50-plus scores from his eight innings.

He also finished runner-up in the Laurie Sawle standings with 77 votes, although well behind runaway victor Bancroft’s 129, with seamer Matthew Kelly (64) rounding out the podium.

Perth Scorchers captain Ashton Turner won the Simon Katich Medal as the best-performed Big Bash League player, while all-rounder Marizanne Kapp took out the WBBL equivalent.

Star all-rounder Cameron Green was recognised by media as WA’s most influential player on the international stage, taking home the Gold Cup following a breakout year for Australia across all three formats including a maiden Test century in India last month.

The values-based Excalibur and Legacy awards went to Kelly and Mathilda Carmichael respectively.

BBL final hero Cooper Connolly was the male rising star and prolific wicket-taker Mills the female rising star.

WA Cricket also paid tribute to recently-retired all-time leading run-scorer Shaun Marsh, who called time on a brilliant domestic career that spanned 22 seasons including three Laurie Sawle Medals

Mitchell Johnson and Keith Carmody were inducted into the Gallery of Greats hall of fame.
