Bringing up the fact that films such as ‘Bheed’, ‘Afwaah’, and ‘Faraaz’ flopped badly, while ‘TKS’ continues to shine at the BO, he compared the Sudipto Sen directorial to that of the propaganda movies in Nazi Germany where films praising the diktats of the political party in power were allowed to shine while any opposing narrative was stifled.
Since its release, ‘The Kerala Story’ has been in the news - both for the right as well as the wrong reasons.

The Adah Sharma starrer was lambasted by critics for triggering communal tensions and misleading the public through misinformation. However, despite the criticism, the film went to be a bonafide success at the box-office. ‘The Kerala Story’ is now the highest-grossing female-led film, with a collection of over Rs 270 crore.

However Bollywood veteran Naseeruddin Shah is not particularly impressed. In an interview with India Today, the ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ actor trashed the movie, calling it a “dangerous trend.”

“We seem to be heading the way of Nazi Germany where in Hitler’s time, the filmmakers were co-opted, attempted to be co-opted, by the supreme leader to make films praising him and what he has done for the countrymen, and running down the Jewish community. So many master filmmakers in Germany left the place, came to Hollywood, and made movies there.” he told the English language daily.

However, the ‘Ishqiya’ star is confident that films with a hateful narrative can’t prosper for long in Bollywood. “I have hope that this atmosphere of hate gets fatiguing. How long can you go on spreading hate ?”

The film revolves around four women, Shalini (Sharma), Nimah (Yogita Bihani), Asifa (Sonia Balani), and Geetanjali (Siddhi Idnani), who undergo radicalisation and eventually become ISIS brides.

Helmed by Sen, the movie is produced by director-producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah (the director of the Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Namastey London’)
