Kentucky woman taking home nearly $200K after picking up winning lottery ticket

A Louisville woman won a $225,000 lottery scratch off after getting winning numbers on both the front and back sides of a ticket. In total, she took home $160,875.

A Kentucky woman is now $225,000 richer after stopping into a Kroger to pick up some prescriptions, a drink and a couple of scratch-off games.The Kentucky Lottery says the woman, who is remaining anonymous, almost didn't go inside to pick up her prescription but did because she needed a drink.“I was debating if I was going to even go in," the woman told the Lottery, "But I wanted some pop, so I decided to go ahead and go in the store. I had $20 cash. I thought, ‘Do I buy the $20 Scratch-off or two $10 Scratch-offs?’” She eventually did and soon had 225,000 reasons to be thankful that she did.The Lottery says the woman waited until she got home to scratch the tickets and started by scratching the winning numbers, then she scratched her first number.“I saw I matched my first number and assumed it was $5, but I saw $6,000 and couldn’t believe it,” she said.Lottery officials say every number she scratched, she was a winner. Once she got to $12,000, she began to cry.“I got my phone out and calculated everything,” she told the lottery. "It was $180,000!"According to the Lottery, she turned the ticket over and went on to win the bonus games as well, bringing her total winnings to $225,000. The winner told the Lottery that she called her son, who was asleep, and told him to wake up, saying, "You need to come over here now!""Is this for real?" He then asked.The Lottery says she went to Kentucky Lottery headquarters to claim her prize on the same day and told officials she plans to take a trip and pay some bills with her winnings.After taxes, the woman took home a check for $160,875. Kroger will receive $2,250 for selling the winning ticket.

The winner told the Lottery that she called her son, who was asleep, and told him to wake up, saying, "You need to come over here now!"

"Is this for real?" He then asked.
