Cabinet passes bill to ensure aviation safety

The Council of Ministers on Friday passed the Civil Aviation Authority Act 2012 Amendment Bill 2023.

The bill was presented to the cabinet by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Ruben Madol on Friday.

The Amendment Act includes providing insurance for aviation safety, providing security and safety air-drone, and complying with international aviation standards.

The cabinet directed the minister to restructure the amendment bill before it is tabled in the national parliament for consideration.

Information Minister Michael Makuei said the Aviation Act amendment is in line with provisions of the peace agreement.

“The presentation of the civil Aviation Act 2012 Amendment Bill 2023. The Bill provides for establishing aviation safety, and security of air drones in the airport and compiling with international aviation standard,” Makuei said speaking to the media after the cabinet session.

“This was an act and amendment with the provision of the peace agreement and this amendment was passed the minister was directed to include some of the amendments and then present the amendment bill to the parliament for more consideration.”

There has been several deadly plane crashes in South Sudan over the years.

The South Sudan aviation authorities say the high number of plane tragedies is due to the use of outdated aircraft and overloaded planes.
