Osceola County moves forward with BVL drainage project to alleviate flooding
County leaders are moving forward with a drainage project in Buena Ventura Lakes to alleviate potential flooding. Parts of Buena Ventura Lakes saw significantly flooding during Hurricane Ian. The county is now moving forward with what they say is the first of many drainage projects in the community: replacing the pipes near the pond north of Royal Palm Drive and west of Seal Street. "We're going to be replacing the culverts that are under the road and lowering them. What this is going to do is increase the capacity of the conveyance out of the pond and help the pond recover quicker and help the peak stages in the pond for everyone who lives around that area,” Assistant County Engineer Linette Matheny said.Matheny says the community is due for upgrades."The Buena Ventura community was built in the ‘70s, and so since the 70s, a lot of regulations have changed. We always talk about how things were built in a different way than they would be built currently, so one of the exciting benefits of these projects is that we're bringing it up to current design standards,” she said.Grant funding and a partnership with Toho Water Authority are making the project possible. Construction on the project is set to be finished in October of this year. Then, the county says, more improvements will be underway.
