Four teams competed in the Huron-Perth consolation tournament at Keterson Park, with the Blue Devils opening with a 26-17 win over Central Huron. Mitchell scored the maximum five runs in the opening three innings, setting the offensive tone for the day from the outset and never looked back. Josie Walker, Ashley McLeod and Kelly all scored four runs in the win.

Next against Goderich, an exciting see-saw affair ended in dramatic style when Kora Smith’s deep sacrifice fly to left field with the bases loaded in the final inning scored McLeod for the winning run in an 18-17 triumph. The same two teams battled for the consolation title after a short break, and Mitchell again came out firing offensively, jumping out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and 9-1 after three en route to a 14-11 victory. Kara Rolph, Charlee Feltz, Shawni DeJong, Walker, Kelly and McLeod all scored two runs from the heart of the batting order, while lead-off hitter Brooklyn Boville and Danielle Harmer provided key hits all day long, too.

DeJong and Feltz shared the pitching duties in the three games.

In WOSSAA, meanwhile, Mitchell won four games in a row in the one-day tournament May 31, defeating London Beal 13-2, St. Thomas Parkside 18-5, London South 7-3 and Central Huron 12-6 in the championship contest. Walker and Kelly each scored three runs in the final while Feltz and DeJong crossed the plate twice.

In the Huron-Perth championship tournament in Exeter June 6, meanwhile, St. Mike’s matched their WOSSAA championship with the H-P title, too.
