BJJ star Gordon Ryan has been having a tough couple of weeks recently. The five-time ADCC champion is battling a severe case of strep throat that has taken a heavy toll on his health. The five-time ADCC champion’s physique drastically changed over the course of the infection, raising concern among his fans. Meanwhile, Gordon has been focusing on his recovery after undergoing heavy medications and surgeries. In these trying times, it is important to stay hopeful and motivated, and Ryan has found his inspiration from bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The 27-year-old shared an update from the hospital detailing how he contracted the infection after his trip from Abu Dhabi. The two-time IBJJF no-gi champion sought medical care after his throat was swollen shut. Ryan also said that repeated doses of penicillin did not work on him and he had to switch to other antibiotics. Since his condition is highly contagious, he abstained from training for fear of infecting teammates in training camp.
Despite being physically depleted and unable to train, Ryan has not lost sight of his work ethic, thanks to Arnold Schwarzenegger. The BJJ king shared an update from the hospital, showing how Schwarzenegger was keeping him motivated through this ordeal.

Gordon Ryan shared a short clip of him watching Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new documentary on Netflix. Ryan was in the hospital bed and watching the documentary on the TV. In the clip that Ryan shared on his Instagram story, the ‘Terminator’ star was sharing a message of putting the work in despite setbacks.

On the screen, Schwarzenegger stressed the importance of having a goal and chasing after it. He discouraged people from feeling dejected and sorry for themselves. The former California governor said such thoughts happened when people don’t do enough work. He argued that if you’re busy chasing your goals, then you don’t have time to entertain these thoughts.
