NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — After trying to piece things together following two close road losses, the Nashua Silver Knights fell back to their old ways with another blowout loss, 9-1 to the New Britain Bees.

The Knights are now struggling at 2-11, limping back to Holman Stadium for home games tonight and Saturday after four straight road losses.

Nashua’s biggest question left unanswered is within its pitching staff, and Thursday night was a prime example of that. New Britain’s red-hot Bees turned the scoreboard into their canvas, painting crooked numbers on the board early. Saint Joseph’s Padraig Mac Seain made his third start of the season, trying to come back from a loss to Brockton.

New Britain sent a message to the Knights, posting six earned runs on seven hits in just 1.1 innings. Five different Bees posted two or more hits on the night, with the team putting up runs in each of the first four innings which included a three-run first and a four-run second.

In a hole early, the Knights’s offense tried to battle back but fell into their old ways. Another nine-strikeout night from the Nashua lineup made it impossible to crawl back in the second meeting between New Britain and the Knights.

St. Thomas Aquinas’s Nick O’Connor and WPI’s Kyle DeRoma both posted hits from the seven and eight spots, with O’Connor bringing around Nashua’s lone run in the seventh on an RBI single.

With this one decided almost from the opening bell, the Knights will head back to Historic Holman Stadium, needing to get right and get right fast. The Knights will welcome in Brockton and Pittsfield for a quick two-game homestand over the weekend.

Looking to work on their Holman Stadium record of 1-4, the Knights will take on the Rox tonight with a 6 p.m. first pitch. It will be the season’s first Fireworks Night as well.
