Octopus Energy has agreed to sell the broadband arm of Shell Energy Retail following the acquisition of the company in December 2023. After careful consideration, the company has selected the shareholders of TalkTalk, an established retailer in the telecoms market, as the buyer of Shell Energy Broadband.

Shell Energy is already supported by TalkTalk's platform, so transferring to them ensures a smooth transition for all customers involved, which is the highest priority for both companies and the best outcome for customers. The migration process will begin in the coming months.

Octopus says: "For now, customers should sit tight; they will be contacted once their account is ready to move over to TalkTalk’s systems. Until migration, Shell Energy Broadband customers will be looked after by the same teams as before."

Octopus announced it had completed the acquisition of Shell Energy Retail in the UK and Germany in December. As part of the deal, Shell and Octopus have also decided to deepen the relationship between Electroverse, Octopus’ EV chargepoint roaming service, and Shell Recharge stations.

Greg Jackson, founder of Octopus Energy Group, commented at the time: “We are pleased to be the new home for Shell Energy Retail customers in the UK and Germany. Now even more customers can receive our five star customer service and choose from a whole heap of cheap, green tariffs, benefitting both their pockets and the energy system."

He added in a statement last month: "Our commitment to customers is paramount, and we will deliver the Octopus promise when we welcome these new customers too.”

The company this year also completed the transfer of 1.5 million Bulb customers in just six months – an industry record – all while maintaining its award-winning customer service levels and its Which? Recommended Energy Supplier status for the 6th year running.
