UK-based power producer Low Carbon has selected Trina Storage, a division of Trina Solar, to supply BESS technology for four UK sites.

The deal will see the delivery of 190MWh of storage capacity to the four locations.

Trina Storage will provide its Elementa 0.5P cabinets for installation at Low Carbon’s solar farms: Meadow, Sandon Brook, Fern Brook and Birch.

The BESS solutions will be co-located with the solar farms, supporting the integration of more renewable energy sources into the UK’s electrical grid.

Each is capable of delivering its rated power output for two hours continuously.

The battery systems will be modular in design, including liquid-cooled, lead-free photocells and multi-level battery management systems that are reconfigurable.

To reduce heat dangers, fire suppression equipment will be included in every energy storage system.

The system’s plug-and-play concept allows for quick installation and above-ground maintenance, enhancing efficiency.

In addition to the hardware, Trina Storage will offer Low Carbon preventive maintenance via long-term service agreements including a 15-year performance warranty.

While these BESS installations are independent projects, the connected solar power plants also utilise Trina Solar PV modules for energy generation.

In January 2024, Low Carbon achieved financial close on a portfolio of solar and co-located battery storage projects with 385MW of capacity in the UK.

The solar capacity of the projects is 290MW and the battery storage capacity is 95MW.

Construction on the portfolio will begin in 2024. Its 290MW solar capacity will power 85,000 homes.
