From USA TODAY: Trump allies crow about win in Colorado

Donald Trump supporters are especially happy with tonight's primary win in Colorado — the state with the Supreme Court that once sought to toss Trump off the ballot.

"This one is particularly meaningful," said senior campaign adviser Jason Miller on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter. The crowd at Mar-a-Lago cheered louder than normal when television screens flashed Trump's win in the Rocky Mountain state.

Trump's Colorado win came a day after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down efforts to disqualify Trump because of the Constitution's insurrection clause.

Did you sign your Colorado ballot envelope when voting in the primary? Here's why it matters

DENVER — If you filled out your ballot properly, signed the envelope, and returned it to a ballot box or a polling center before 7 p.m., then your vote will be counted.

Denver Clerk and Recorder Paul Lopez stated that one of the largest reasons a ballot wouldn't be counted is because the voter forgot to sign the envelope. "It's very important that you sign the back of your ballot, which is the envelope," he said. "That's how we verify who you are because your signature has already been captured in our voting records or through the DMV."

Lopez explained that the election judges are trained to spot differences in signatures and voters will be contacted if there is any question at all. For the vote to count, voters have eight days to send in their signature in the instance of a discrepancy or if a voter forgot to sign their ballot.

What if I turned my Colorado ballot in at a different county’s ballot box?

DENVER — If you dropped off your ballot in a different county than the one you’re registered in, your vote will still be counted.

“You can drop off that ballot in any one of our counties,” Denver Clerk and Recorder Paul Lopez said. “If you live in Jefferson County but work in Denver and drop it off in one of our boxes, the next day we meet up with all the counties and sort the ballots.”

How does the delegate system work?

Voters across 15 states and one U.S. territory are selecting their preferred presidential candidate on Super Tuesday.

However, voters might be unaware that their ballots do not directly elect the president. Thanks to the Electoral College system, voters are selecting statewide delegates, who will cast their vote for president on behalf of their state's residents. By the end of the night on Super Tuesday, over a third of the delegates in the presidential race will be awarded to various candidates.

The number of delegates awarded to presidential candidates varies by party and election year. Democrats have 3,934 delegates in this election, meaning the winning candidate must receive at least 1,968 to have a majority. Republicans have a total of 2,429 delegates this year, and the nominee will need to garner a total of 1,215 delegates to be proclaimed the winner. On Super Tuesday, 1,420 Democratic and 865 Republican delegates will be awarded.

Here's more on how the delegate system works.

Will primary votes for former President Donald Trump count?

Yes. The Supreme Court on Monday said Colorado can’t use an anti-insurrectionist provision of the Constitution to kick Donald Trump off the ballot, leaving it up to voters to decide whether the former president should be returned to the White House after trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

In a unanimous decision, the court reversed the Colorado Supreme Court’s December decision that Trump is disqualified from running for president by a Constitutional amendment enacted after the Civil War to keep insurrectionists from holding office. But the three liberal justices criticized the conservative majority's opinion.
