Sungrow Moves Ahead On 291MWh BESS Project In South Australia Sungrow Receives 291MWh BESS Proj. In S. Australia From ZEN Energy

Sungrow, the leading PV inverter and energy storage system supplier, was awarded notice to proceed (NTP) from ZEN Energy for the commencement of the 111MW/291MWh Templer’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in South Australia.

The project was planned in partnership with ZEN Energy as the client and Shanxi Electric Power Construction (SEPC) as the consortium partner. This marks SA’s second largest energy storage and the second largest stand-alone BESS installation in Australia. Notably, the Templers project has received its grid connection approval from the Australian Energy Market Operator before the contract execution and the project is expected to achieve commercial in 2025.

The core of the solution lies in Sungrow’s liquid cooling battery technology, which can play a crucial role in grid reliability, mitigating intermittency issues and stabilizing power supply. The chosen product, Power Titan energy storage system, is tailored to meet the unique requirements of the Australian market and policy environment.

The successful financial close marks a key milestone for Sungrow in the Australian market, especially for its storage solutions. Opening the door for similar large storage deals elsewhere worldwide.

Australia has been a pioneer in large utility scale storage, especially with solar gaining a large share of its overall grid supply. The country ranks at the highest position for penetration of rooftop solar, besides many other large, utility scale projects coming up. Besides projects for domestic power needs, Australia has also embarked on a major push to use renewables for green hydrogen production and more, creating a large and growing market for utility scale storage.  In a market where Tesla was an early mover with the Hornsdale energy storage project, Chinese firms have firmly entrenched themselves with their more cost effective and large scale solutions.
