Best movies on TV (April 26-28)

Here are our picks for the best movies on TV this weekend (April 26-28, 2024), all of them airing on Freeview channels like BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is turning 30 this year, so get some popcorn and tune in on Friday night on BBC One for a proper celebration!

This '90s road movie is one of the best LGBTQ+ movies of all time, and its success in 1994 opened the door to a wider and better portrayal of LGBT characters on the big screen. Three decades later, it's still a blast.

Starring Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp, the story follows three drag queens as they journey across the Australian Outback, from Sydney to Alice Springs, in a tour bus named Priscilla.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is airing on BBC One at 11.35pm on Friday (April 26)

Wednesday's Jenna Ortega stars in this horror movie, which you can catch either in the middle of Friday night or afterwards on Channel 4's streaming platform.

Set in the late 1970s, the story follows a group of porn filmmakers and stars who find an isolated location to film their new movie. The creepy old man who owns the land lives next door with his wife, but, as the visitors will soon learn, they are far from a couple of sweet, innocent elders.

The movie also stars Pitch Perfect's Brittany Snow and Grey's Anatomy's Martin Henderson, but Mia Goth is the one to follow here — she also stars in the critically-acclaimed prequel Pearl and the upcoming MaXXXine (which will mark the end of Ti West's horror trilogy).

X is airing on Channel 4 at 1.10am on Friday (April 26)

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

While we wait for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, we can go back to the beginning with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The movie is airing on Saturday morning, which makes for a great watch with the family!

The film follows a new Spider-Man, Miles Morales, as he embraces his new arachnid powers and stops Kingpin from destroying the world as he knows it. He will have some help of differents versions of Spider-Man that are falling into his reality through the cracks of the multiverse.

It is as exciting as it sounds, and it has an amazing sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which is available to watch on Sky.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is airing on Channel 4 at 11.35am on Saturday (April 26)

Looking for one of the best horror movies of all time? You can find it this Saturday night on Film4.

Hereditary is still as terrifying as when it was first released back in 2018, with Toni Collette's chilling performance still haunting us. Ari Aster's debut feature before Midsommar and Beau is Afraid is outstanding, telling the story of a dysfunctional family tormented by grief.

Hereditary is airing on Film4 at 11.20pm on Saturday (April 27)
