Rishi Sunak has whinged about being given the "worst hospital pass" for any incoming PM in "many decades".

The PM moaned about being given a bad legacy from Liz Truss, who crashed the economy with her disastrous mini-budget. Yet the Tories have been in power for 14 years with Mr Sunak having served in senior Cabinet ministerial roles, including as Chancellor under Boris Johnson.

Mr Sunak also complained that the job of Prime Minister requires him to do many things that "can be completely different" in the same day. Speaking about entering Downing Street in October 2022, he said: “Someone described it as the worst hospital pass for any incoming prime minister in many decades.

"And that clearly it's been, there's lots of frustrations. We've been through a lot as a country over the past few years, which people are understandably frustrated about and makes the environment trickier.” Someone being given a hospital pass means they have been put in a difficult or unpleasant situation. Social media users hit out at the PM and said "my heart bleeds for you".

He also said he found having different demands in his daily routine “challenging”. “Your typical day is divided into probably, at best, half-hour chunks, and over the course of one day you have to go through from thing to thing to thing, and they can be completely different,” he said.

Speaking about the job of Prime Minister, he said: “One minute you might be talking to a group of primary-age children who are visiting Downing Street for something or other and engaging with them. The next minute you’re in a National Security Council meeting about whether we should … and how we will retaliate against strikes on UK ships in the Red Sea. And then you’ll be talking to MPs, or you might have a statement in parliament about something."

Mr Sunak was also asked about elections guru John Curtis predicting that the Conservatives have only a 1% chance of winning the next election. “We've had plenty of predictions about elections and referendums in the past years that turned out to be wrong. So we should always remember that,” he told the Times' The Story podcast.

Prof Curtice said there is now a “99% chance of Labour forming the next administration.” Speaking to Politico, he said: "It’s clearly a very small chance that the Tories are going to be in government after the autumn.” The latest poll by Savanta found Tory fortunes have slumped to the worst state since Liz Truss's disastrous mini-Budget, with Labour 20 points ahead on 44% and the Conservatives on just 24%.
