TRUFANT, Mich. (WOOD) — A Montcalm County woman took home a few dollars from a lottery ticket and decided to buy one more the next day. That decision paid off big time.

The Michigan Lottery says the 55-year-old woman noticed that the Jackpot Slots Fast Cash jackpot kept increasing, so she bought a few tickets in February and won a couple of bucks. When she went back to the same gas station in Trufant the next day to collect her winnings, she saw that no one had won the jackpot yet.

“I cashed them in and bought another ticket since the jackpot hadn’t been won yet,” she said in a news release from the Michigan Lottery.

What happened next was something out of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

“The clerk scanned the ticket and thought something was wrong with their machine when a message came up to file a claim at the Lottery office, but I knew it meant I might have a big winner,” she said in a statement. “When she handed the ticket to me, I saw the three jackpot symbols right away and knew I had won the jackpot! I wanted to get the ticket home and in a safe place ASAP, so I rushed to my car and drove straight home.”

The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, recently visited the Michigan Lottery’s headquarters and took home $791,957 jackpot. She said she now plans travel, invest and help her kids with her winnings.
