SYDNEY, N.S. - A section of the Esplanade in Sydney will be reduced to one lane of traffic all next week, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality announced on Thursday.

The lane reduction will begin on Monday at 7 a.m. and will run until Sunday, April 7 at 5 p.m. to allow for the Nova Scotia Community College building to be connected to city services.

Sidewalks and crosswalks on the Esplanade between Byng Avenue and Townsend Street will also be closed during this time.

Motorists driving from Kings Road towards the Esplanade will be detoured to Byng Avenue, left onto Bentinck Street, left onto Falmouth Street down to the Esplanade. Transit Cape Breton routes will be detoured onto Byng Avenue turning left onto George Street and continuing to the Transit Cape Breton hub.

Transit Cape Breton and other motorists driving on the Esplanade towards Kings Road will follow the traffic cones through the one lane traffic.

Motorists are reminded to reduce their speed when passing through a road construction zone.
