The Idaho Lottery held their 23rd annual “Scratch for Schools” fundraising event April 4 at the College of Southern Idaho’s recreation center — the largest in the Magic Valley and second largest in the state.
The annual fundraiser allows schools to raise additional funds for their schools needs. This includes books, desks, audio/video equipment, playground materials and field trips.
A total of 71 schools participated in this event, in which teachers, administrators and PTO members had five minutes to scratch as many lottery tickets as they can.
The more accurate you are, the more money you will earn.
Gooding High School came in first, scratching 200 tickets within the five-minute round.
Dworshak Elementary won the final round and claimed $667, while North Valley Academy and White Pine Academy were the big winners of the evening, each winning $767.
Idaho Lottery’s Public Information Officer, David Workman, told the Times-News, Hansen Jr/Sr High School won $965 last year. Castleford High School was the fastest scratching school with 193 tickets in five minutes and won $465.
Workman also said every school is guaranteed to win prizes, ranging from $265 and up.
The average is usually around $350 dollars.
“This program has returned $1.6 million dollars back for individual classroom needs, which is really fulfilling because we have the opportunity to reach almost every school in the state that participates with us,” Workman said.
