Man broke into N.J. convenience store, stole over $9K in lottery tickets, cops say

A man was charged earlier this month with breaking into a Somerset County convenience store and stealing thousands of dollars worth of lottery tickets, authorities announced Tuesday.

The burglary of the Franklin Township store was reported to police shortly after 8 a.m. on March 14, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said in a release.

Detectives alleged Joseph Holman, 41, of Willingboro, broke the glass door of the Easton Avenue establishment and stole about $9,300 in New Jersey Lottery tickets, the office said.

On April 4, Holman was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools, which is considered a disorderly persons offense, investigators said. He was served with his criminal complaint in the Middlesex County Correctional Center where he has been held since March 20 on unrelated and unspecified charges.

He will remain in jail until his detention hearing on the Somerset County-related charges.

Anyone with information related to the burglary was asked to contact the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Burglary Unit at (908) 231-7100 or the Franklin Township Police Department at (732) 873-5533.
