NFL Draft: The all-time all-SEC first round

The nine players chosen from SEC members in the first round of last year’s NFL Draft brought to 500 the selections that have been made from the conference within the first 32 picks.

That’s from among the 2,816 players who have been drafted in those positions.

But what if all the choices had to be made from the SEC? Which SEC player has had the best career from each of the first 32 draft slots, the picks that will make up the first round in this year’s draft on April 25 in Detroit?

Eighteen members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame are former SEC players who were drafted among the first 32 picks. Four slots – No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 11 – have produced two Hall of Famers apiece. In contrast, a few of the other slots have hardly produced a Pro Bowler from among the SEC selections.

The 2023 first round already has had two of its SEC picks chosen for the Pro Bowl Games as rookies – Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson and Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Both entered the NFL from Alabama.

Not all the 500 selections were made in the first round. The first round has been growing in length as the NFL has added teams through the years since its first draft in 1936, when nine players were picked in the first round. Of the SEC’s 500 picks in the first 32, 108 were not made in the first round.

The NFL Draft choices made from the SEC in the first 32 selections, with the premier pick at each draft slot:
