An 11-year-old boy died after an ATV crash in Sangerville on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash on East Sangerville Road was reported at around 4:15 p.m., according to Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found a neighbor performing CPR on the child. According to initial reports, the boy had borrowed an ATV from the neighbor after helping with some chores at their property.

When the boy did not return, the neighbor investigated and found the 11-year-old unconscious with the ATV overturned on top of him. The neighbor was able to remove the vehicle, but the boy remained unresponsive.

Emergency responders took over performing CPR on the boy, but were unable to revive him. He died at the scene of the crash.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
