The Ursuline Lancers won the team title with 42 points, seven more than the runner-up Pain Court Patriotes, at Tuesday’s LKSSAA senior badminton championship in Sarnia.

Chatham-Kent was third with 20 and Saint-Francois-Xavier was fourth with 16.

Ursuline’s Jack Countryman and Sam Lozon beat Chatham-Kent’s Hudson DeNure and Justin Ewald in the mixed doubles final.

Pain Court’s Owen Caron defeated McGregor’s Maddux Beuckelare in the boys’ singles final.

Pain Court’s Colin St. Pierre and Travis Caron won the boys’ doubles final over Chatham Christian’s Zack Hoogstad and Jerry Zomerman.

Chatham-Kent’s Lindsay St. Germain and Jeanette Legere won the girls’ doubles final over Ursuline’s Victoria Cap and Julia Cap.

Tahlia Kelch of St. FX beat Pain Court’s Claire Desaulniers in the girls’ singles final.

The top six in each division qualified for the SWOSSAA championship Tuesday, April 23, at St. FX.

UCC, Pain Court top list of qualifiers

Ursuline has seven qualifiers and Pain Court has six for the SWOSSAA senior badminton championship.

Ursuline’s Lucas Teron and Kohen Cudney were third in boys’ doubles, and Pain Court’s Everett Ellis and Alexandre Aitken were fourth.

Ursuline’s Avery Sheppy was third in girls’ singles and Lambton-Kent’s Madelyn Metcalf was fifth.

McGregor’s Ryan O’Donohue and Jayde McGahan were third in girls’ doubles, and Pain Court’s Avery L’Ecuyer and Mikella Caron were fifth.

Ursuline’s Aiden Arnold and Gabby Sheppy were third in mixed doubles, Chatham-Kent’s Jessica Lin and Curtis Moco were fifth, and Pain Court’s Janelle Labonte and Gavin Stonefish were sixth.

Ursuline’s Adam Vsetula and Brock Mailloux were fourth and fifth, respectively, in boys’ singles.

U12 Wildcats win Ontario Cup silver

The Chatham-Kent Wildcats under-12 girls team won silver medals at the Ontario Cup provincial basketball championship Sunday in Ottawa.

The Wildcats lost to the Kingston Impact 29-23 in the Division 5 gold-medal game.

The Wildcats played for the title after winning their pool with a 3-0 record.

Cougars prepare for U19 women’s debut

The Chatham-Kent Cougars are still recruiting players in Grades 9 to 12 for their new team in the Ontario Women’s Football League.

The Cougars have been officially accepted into the league’s under-19 division.

Indoor practices are being held Sundays in April from 1 to 3 p.m. at Chatham-Kent secondary school’s main gym. Outdoor practices will be held in May on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Chatham-Kent Community Athletic Complex.

Home games will be played Sundays starting in late May.

St. Marys to face Listowel, Fort Erie

The St. Marys Lincolns are joined in the Sutherland Cup round-robin by the Listowel Cyclones and Fort Erie Meteors.

The Lincolns ended a 30-year championship drought by winning the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Western Conference title.

The Cyclones won the Midwestern Conference and the Meteors took the Golden Horseshoe Conference.

The top two teams in the double round-robin advance to the Sutherland Cup final. Play begins Friday.
