Weekend showers didn’t keep more than 1,300 volunteers from participating in Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel’s third annual Valley Day of Service.

“I am grateful for all of the amazing volunteers who turned out despite the rain to make this Day of Service such a success, and I am thankful for the wonderful community organizations that help make a positive difference in the Valley every day of the year,” Gabriel said.

Volunteers completed nearly 20 service projects across the Valley on April 13 including; the preparation of the “World’s Largest Lasagna,” to feed 22,000 Angelenos in need alongside the nonprofit Hope the Mission; cleaning the Sepulveda Basin with Volunteers Cleaning Communities; crafting 35 blankets for survivors of domestic violence at Haven Hills; training over 100 volunteers in CPR with the American Red Cross; and planting fruit trees with TreePeople at the Hope the Mission family shelter in Woodland Hills.

Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo from Santa Clarita, state Sen. Caroline Menjivar of the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath also rolled up their sleeves and joined volunteers in giving back to the Valley.

“We are lucky to have such a generous and caring community in the San Fernando Valley,” said Gabriel.
