Investigation opened after inmate found dead in Cache County Jail

Authorities have opened an investigation after an inmate of the Cache County Jail was found unresponsive in his cell on Wednesday.

Deputies of the Cache County Sheriff's Office said that they found the inmate unconscious in his cell at 2:45 p.m. on April 17.

After they determined that he was not breathing, deputies and medical staff provided life-saving efforts until Logan paramedics responded and continued CPR on the inmate.

Crews were unable to revive the inmate and he was eventually pronounced dead on the scene.

The Cache County Attorney's Office initiated the Northern Utah Critical Incident Investigative Team protocol after being notified of the situation.

At this time, an outside agency is investigating the incident while the Sheriff's Office conducts an onsite Internal Investigation.

Authorities said that the inmate's name is being withheld pending the notification of his family members.
