PARK CITY, Utah (KUTV) — The Sundance Film Festival has announced it may consider moving to a different state entirely.
The festival is putting out a Request for Information from future potential homes.
For 2023, an analytics company added up the economic impact of the festival on the state of Utah.
It's estimated approximately 21,000 people came to Utah from out of state for the festival, spending about $97 million while they were here.
All told, the report by Y2 Analytics says the festival is worth $118 million to Utah's gross domestic product.
Authors of the study also point to 1,600 jobs created, $63 million in wages, and $12.8 million in tax revenue.
Those who wrote the report say they didn't attempt to include spending by sponsors of the festival, taxes from the SLC airport, nor any spending by visitors who came the festival and then decided to return to Utah later.
An economic impact report for the 2024 festival has not yet been released.
The Sundance Film Festival says any possible change in venue would start in 2027.
A final location is expected to be picked around the end of this year, or early next 2025.
