Imelda May has thanked “darling” Johnny Depp for inviting her and pals along to the UK premiere of his new movie Jeanne du Barry in London.

The Irish singer posted a picture of herself at the Curzon Mayfair bash alongside a gang of excited pals including Sandra Cash, the widow of musician Jeff Beck.

She also tagged Georgina "Gina" Deuters — the wife of Stephen Deuters – Depp's former personal assistant and close confidant in the photo.

In another post on Instagram, the singer shared an image of the opening credits of the movie she described as a “stunningly beautiful film.. incredible story.”

The 60-year-old actor plays King Louis XV in the period drama, which is his first feature film since the conclusion of his high-profile defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard in the US two years ago.

He stars alongside actress-writer-director Maiwenn in the new flick which arrives in cinemas on May 2.

Imelda and Johnny were close pals of Shane MacGowan and both attended the Pogue star’s funeral at Saint Mary's of the Rosary Church, in Nenagh, Co Tipperary last December.

At the service, Depp bowed his head said “Maestro” in the direction of MacGowan’s coffin, before reading a short prayer while Imelda performed alongside Nick Cave, Glen Hansard and the Pogues.

They also both performed at a birthday bash for MacGowan in Dublin in 2018 and Imelda later expressed support for Depp during his high-profile defamation case against Heard.

McGowan and wife Victoria Mary Clarke were also stanch supporters of the American actor and it was Victoria who was seen sharing an emotional embrace with Imelda at her father’s funeral in Dublin in January.

In February, Victoria paid a heartfelt tribute to Hollywood actor Johnny for reaching out in support since the death of her husband

During his high-profile legal battle with Heard, Shane and his wife Victoria both publicly and privately supported Depp.

Writing on Instagram, Victoria wrote how the Hollywood star’s support has helped her through her grief.

“I just wanted to express my immense gratitude and appreciation to our great friend Johnny who has been such an incredible support to me since the death of Shane,” she said.

"True friendship is the most beautiful and precious gift you can have in life and it lifts your spirits to know that someone really has your back.

"And not just that, I think it’s a wonderful gift to feel seen and understood and cherished at a soul level by another human.

"It gives you a feeling that you are not alone in this world, you are connected and you are accepted and appreciated.

"The heart has a way of reaching out to people even without words maybe our hearts are telepathic and they are more eloquent than words can ever be.

"Whatever way it works it’s a mystery and it’s magical. Thank you for being a friend JD ! And Shane thanks you too.”

In 2022, Depp spoke about how he struck up a friendship with The Pogues star after a chance meeting in a pub.

He said: “When I met Shane, he was negotiating a pool table, a drink in one hand a pint and a guitar in the other.

"He was teetering, balancing back and forth trying to negotiate which way to fall.

" I watched him do that for about 15 minutes. Then I was introduced to him, before he fell, and from that moment on, you just knew... there are moments in life when you know this will happen one time and one time only, when you get the opportunity to spend time with greatness.”
