ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — This week on Empire State Weekly, Federal funding provided a significant investment in New York’s growing semiconductor industry. The Biden Administration invested over $6 billion in aid to Micron.

Rob Simpson the President and CEO of the Centerstate Corporation, explained the large federal investment helped Micron build more facilities in upstate New York.

“Our community is at the forefront of manufacturing and developing the most fundamental input to the modern economy right semiconductor chips that enable technology and that means that we are incredibly relevant not only to our country’s economic future, our country’s security,” said Simpson.

Also this week Sanjay Goel, a cybersecurity expert and professor at SUNY Albany, explained the recent ransomware attack on the State Legislature. He explained the common nature of this attack and the organized nature of modern cybercriminals.

“Every moment, there are thousands of hackers trying to break into different systems all over the world, they have automated tools, they are scanning systems to find any weakness that they can,” said Goel.
