Fire officials battle major fire at pallet company in Harrison County

Harrison County fire crews spent much of the day battling a fire at a pallet business off Highway 49 in Harrison County.

The fire was discovered just after noon at Sonny’s Pallets LLC, which is just southwest of Harrison Central High School.

A giant plume of smoke was visible for miles this afternoon.

We know now that 10,000 pallets burned this afternoon and more than 30 firefighters fought the flames.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but it is believed to be an accident and officials are still investigating the origin of the fire.

The Mississippi Forestry Commission tells us the fire spread to the woods nearby, impacting less than 10 acres. That woods fire is 70 percent contained.

Traffic wise on Highway 49, things are back to normal in all directions in the immediate area surrounding the business.
