These are the lowest-rated high schools in Mass., U.S. News & World Report says

Editor’s note: This story was updated at 6 a.m. on April 24 to correct the name of the highest-rated school in Massachusetts. It’s Boston Latin School.

Some schools in Massachusetts didn’t perform nearly as well as their counterparts at the top of the U.S. News & World Report’s latest rankings, placing toward the bottom of the list both in the state and nationwide.

While Massachusetts did have the highest percentage of schools land in the top quarter of the rankings, the state did have 47 schools land between 13,242 and 17,655 in the rankings. Schools are not individually ranked that low in the rankings. The rankings place emphasis on graduation rate, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate exams, and proficiency in math, science, and reading.

The worst-performing Massachusetts school in the rankings was Another Course to College in Hyde Park, with a graduation rate of 86% and just 3% of students passing at least one Advanced Placement exam.

The rankings also rated Argosy Collegiate Charter School in Fall River poorly, though that school did not share data on students’ performance on Advanced Placement exams, leaving just subject proficiency and graduation rate for review.

Bartlett Junior Senior High School in Webster, Baystate Academy Charter Public School in Springfield, and Boston Community Leadership Academy in Hyde Park, were all also rated poorly by the rankings.

Nationwide, the rankings rated a number of virtual and online schools poorly, including two in Minnesota.

The highest-ranking high school in the state, according to the site, is Boston Latin School, which placed 27th on the national list. Another high school in Mass., the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School in Hadley, placed in the top 100.

The top-ranked school nationwide was BASIS Peoria in Arizona, with Signature School in Evansville, Indiana, Tesla STEM High School in Redmond, Washington, Julia R. Masterman Secondary School in Philadelphia, and Payton College Preparatory High School in Chicago rounding out the top five.
