Regional council to discuss Bleams Road reconstruction contract

If your usual traffic route includes Bleams Road in Kitchener, you may soon have to find an alternate route.

Regional councillors are set to award a contract that could begin construction on Bleams Road between Fischer-Hallman Road and Trussler Road. The tender is set to be awarded to Musselman Excavating Limited in Petersburg for just over $20 million.

Five companies from Kitchener, Guelph, St. Jacobs, Cambridge and Mississauga were also considered.

The project will be completed in phases and could start as early as next month. It is expected to be fully completed by December 2025. The reconstruction would start at Fischer-Hallman Road and head to the west to Trussler Road.

Some of the improvements include road reconstruction, streetlighting, multiuse trials on both sides and roundabouts at Abram Clemens Way/Commonwealth Street, Amanda Drive/Donnerwerth Drive, Isaiah Drive and Trussler Road.

Detour notices would be put in place advising drivers to take Ottawa Street South and Fischer-Hallman Road. Access to Bleams would still be available for local residents, businesses and emergency vehicles.

If passed, the tender for the contract must be accepted by July 1st.

Council will meet on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.
