Slawomir Mentzen
Slawomir Mentzen, co-chairman of the radical-nationalist Confederation addressed the issue of Poland's access to Nuclear Sharing program.
"Militarily it doesn't give Poland anything. It has political significance, of course, because it shows the greater involvement of the United States in this part of Europe. On the other hand, we have bigger problems than these weapons, which we could not use," he said in an interview with Rzeczpospolita daily.
"We have a scandalous situation in the Polish army. In March 2022, the Law on Homeland Defense was adopted, and so far this law lacks 12 implementing regulations. Now the army has no mobilization capacity, because there are no regulations issued," he added.
The New Hope leader pointed out that there is neither the ability to mobilize equipment nor the ability to mobilize people. In his opinion, the matter has been screwed up by this and all previous governments. "This government has time to do a lot of stupid things, and they forgot to issue key regulations," he added.
According to the politician, another problem is the insufficient production of artillery ammunition in Poland. "We produce 30,000-40,000 units a year. Russia produces 3 million a year, and consumes 10,000 pieces a day. Nothing is being done about it. We still have no new ammunition factories," he said.
According to the Confederation deputy, Poland should follow in the footsteps of the Germans, who intend to build an ammunition factory within a year and a half. It will cost EUR 300 million. "We should already have several such factories. They should be built as soon as the war breaks out," Mentzen said. According to him, Poland buys very expensive military equipment, and does not have such things as ammunition, rifles, helmets, uniforms.
"We are completely unprepared for a conflict. This is a huge negligence," he concluded.
