LANSING, MI -- Christopher Cassel admits he didn’t think he’d have a chance at winning the Michigan Lottery’s CA$H second chance jackpot, but he sure is happy he earned entries as he recently brought home a $250,299 prize.
“I knew I was earning second chance entries by playing certain online games, but I didn’t think much of it,” said the 34-year-old Cassel, who is from Fowlerville. “I came across an email from the Michigan Lottery informing me I’d won a $250,299 second chance jackpot, and I immediately thought it was a scam. After calling the Lottery I found out it was real, but I still had a hard time believing it!”
The second-chance drawing was held on April 10 and Cassel earned his entries by playing online instant games through the Michigan Lottery website. With his winnings, Cassel plans on buying a house and a new truck.
“Winning is very exciting, although I don’t think the reality of it hasn’t fully sunk in yet,” he said.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Wolverine FLL lottery club which claimed a $1.05 billion jackpot in March 2021. With their winnings, the group plans to give back to the community.
And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a Mega Millions winner worth $1 million sold in Southfield in 2023 went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
