TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man on felony probation for burglary is behind bars after leading Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers on a high-speed chase in Pasco County on Thursday.

Just before 1:30 p.m., an FHP trooper was conducting a traffic stop on State Road 52 at Kent Grove Road when Demarco Lee Earls, Jr., passed the trooper going an estimated 100 mph, according to the arrest report.

The trooper, driving an unmarked patrol car, and another trooper in a marked vehicle pursued Earls, who was reportedly traveling between 103 mph and 111 mph in a 45 mph speed limit zone.

The chase led troops east of Shady Hills Road, back onto State Road 52, and eventually onto the Suncoast Parkway (SR 589). Earls also reportedly spun out briefly before traveling the wrong way into oncoming traffic on the entrance ramp from State Road 54 and SR 589.

The trooper in the marked vehicle was able to bring the chase to and end with a successful PIT maneuver, aided when the unmarked vehicle was intentionally rammed into Earls white Nissan Altima, according to the report.

Earls reportedly attempted to flee the vehicle but was arrested by the two troopers. The arrest report says Earls was combative, flailing his legs and attempting to kick several officers during his arrest.

While being put into the patrol car, Earls reportedly told one officer “I’ll kick the s*** out of you” and attempted to bite him.

The arrest report says Earls had a suspended license and is on felony probation for burglary until 2028.

During a search of the vehicle, officers said they found 28 grams of cocaine and more than 8 grams of fentanyl.

Earls is facing charges of reckless driving, flee with disregard of safety to persons or property, driving while license suspended, possession of cocaine, possession of drug equipment, trafficking in fentanyl, resisting officers with violence, and simple assault on an officer/firefighter/EMT.
