Firefighter Honored for Lifetime of Service

Dixon

Licking Co.- A Licking County firefighter was honored for his service to the community.

Charles Dixon was presented with the Ohio Fire Educator Lifetime Achievement Award during the 43rd Annual Ohio Fire Service Hall of Fame and Fire Awards Ceremony.

Dixon began his service in 1977 as a volunteer EMT and firefighter with the Bladensburg Fire Department. He joined the Granville Volunteer Fire Department in 1987, as a full-time firefighter/paramedic and EMS and fire instructor. Dixon explained why he continues to serve.

“The chance to inspire others to get involved in their community, to get involved in a job that they love to do, service to others, especially young people in a time like now where it’s critical across our state, across our country. We really need people in the fire service,” said Hixon Ohio fire Educator Lifetime Achievement honoree.

Ohio Fire Association Assistant Bureau Chief Dave Belcher met Dixon in the early ’90s and said he’s very deserving of the award.

“Charlie deserves this award because he’s the ultimate in fire instructing and education throughout the countless Ohioans he’s saved by training Ohio firefighters.”

Dixon has also served as an instructor for the Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County and worked for Licking Memorial Hospital. In addition, Dixon served as a supervisor for the Ohio Fire Academy’s Fire Training Program and worked as a civilian EMS instructor for the Columbus Division of Fire.
