DENVER (KDVR) — On April 18, Greeley police officers responded to a call of a woman who was screaming in her front yard during the early morning hours. Officers came to find out the woman was in labor on the front porch.

Officers arrived at the home during the snow and rain to find the woman’s water had broken. In a release on Friday, the Greeley Police Department said they believed the woman went into labor while home alone. Her phone had died, so she tried to make it to a neighbor’s home to call 911.

However, she didn’t make it to the neighbors’ before the police arrived. Once the officers found the woman outside, they called the paramedics — which is when they heard the first cry from a baby.

The baby boy was turning blue in the freezing cold.

Officers tied her umbilical cord with bread ties, cut the cord and rushed the baby boy into a patrol car. Once the officer was inside the car, the baby stopped breathing. The officer started infant CPR and chest compressions, according to Greeley police.

During this time, the woman told the other officers that she was expecting triplets.

Soon after, another baby boy came out, and an officer tied and cut the umbilical cord.

Luckily, medics arrived and rushed the two babies to the hospital. The mother was taken into surgery to deliver the last baby.

Police were happy to report on Friday that all three babies were in the neonatal intensive care unit with strong heartbeats.

“We expect our officers to do great work in our community every day, it is ingrained in our core values. Even with that lofty expectation, I was amazed at the teamwork, ingenuity, and care our officers provided to this mother and her three new baby boys. The success of this call is a success in our officers, our training, and our partnerships with other public safety agencies in the area,” Chief Adam Turk said.
